Have you heard chipping and chattering above your head when you’re in an urban downtown area or neighborhood? Have you seen small “bats” flying during the daytime? Chimney Swifts are unique, “cigar-shaped” birds that live alongside people in many cities and neighborhoods and are easily confused with bats. They play an important role as natural pest control by consuming thousands of flying insects per day. Sadly, these birds are declining across the country, but you can help!

Join Rachelle Roake from Michigan Audubon to learn about these charming city-loving birds and find out how to help through monitoring and creating habitat. The workshop will include an indoor talk followed by a short carpool to a Chimney Swift roost location to witness the amazing spectacle of roosting behavior. This workshop is great for non-birders and birders alike, newbies to experts.

This program is open to all ages. Please wear appropriate clothing and footwear to be outside. We will have the program rain or shine.

Woldumar is proud to announce our 10th annual trail run on Sunday, November 5th!  Come celebrate 10 years of trail running with us!

Runners and walkers of all experience levels are invited to participate in this chip-timed event. The 5K and 10k courses wind through our beautiful 178 acre property on natural (unpaved) trails along the Grand River.  Participants will experience breathtaking fall beauty as they traverse our restored prairie, pine forest, wetlands, and hardwood forest.  The running surface is varied and includes packed earth, crushed limestone, and grass. There are occasional rocks and roots, so runner caution is recommended.

Unfortunately, pets cannot participate with their owners at this event.

Strollers are allowed, but may be difficult for runners to use due to narrow sections of the trail, steps, and the terrain.

This event is an important fundraiser for the Woldumar Nature Center, a Lansing-based nonprofit which provides science and nature education programs to over 5000 students each year.

Only registrations received before 10/16 are guaranteed a T-shirt.

To register multiple runners click "add guest" at the bottom of the registration form.

Both events will start together at 9:30am in Woldumar's main campus area.

    Through 10/16/17:  5k - $25, 10k - $30

    After 10/16/17:  5k - $30, 10k - $35

Woldumar Nature Association members receive a $5 discount. Discount does not apply to Email Only Members or Trail Sponsors.  Please confirm your membership status before completing a registration. If you wish to become a member, please click here.
